Iyengar yoga is a form of Hatha yoga (a yoga system of physical exercises and breathing control) named after B.K.S Iyengar. Mr. Iyengar was was considered one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world. He died in Pune, India, in 2014 at the ripe old age of 96. Iyengar style yoga places an emphasis on detail, precision, and alignment in the performance of postures ("asanas") and breath-control ("pranayama"). Students develop strength, mobility, stability, and piece-of-mind through practicing the asanas. Another characteristic of Iyengar yoga is the use of props such as blocks, belts, blankets, bolsters, sandbags, etc. to support students in their practice.
